Dr. Sherry Peel Jackson, former IRS agent turned tax strategist, pulls back the curtain on how small business owners are unfairly targeted by the system. In this hard-hitting episode, Sherry explains why the IRS considers entrepreneurs “low-hanging fruit” and how to legally protect yourself through strategic deductions and proper business structuring.

After leaving the IRS, Sherry discovered deep flaws in the tax system—ones that led to a federal prison sentence when she spoke out. But instead of backing down, she doubled down. Now, she helps six-figure professionals keep more of what they earn without crossing legal lines.

Craig and Sherry discuss the importance of standing up to institutional overreach and why leadership sometimes means challenging broken systems. Sherry shares practical advice for anyone looking to reduce their tax burden legally, including the necessity of having a home-based business and meticulous record-keeping.

This isn’t about tax evasion—it’s about tax education, justice, and reclaiming financial freedom. Sherry’s mission is clear: empower people with knowledge and help them escape financial bondage.

I was in a coma for six weeks while the doctors told my wife I was going to die. When I woke up, she told me the most fantastic story. My team kept running the business without me. Freelancers reached out to my team and said, we will do whatever it takes. As long as Craig's in the hospital. I consider that the greatest accomplishment in my career.

My name is Craig Andrews and this is the Leaders and Legacies podcast where we talk to leaders creating an impact beyond themselves. At the end of today's interview, I'll tell you how you can be the next leader featured on this show.

00;00;51;10 - 00;01;25;12
Craig Andrews
Today I went welcome Doctor Sherry Peel Jackson. She is the founder of ESP Jackson Consulting. The creator of the K p g system. She is the go to expert for six figure professionals who want to escape the corporate rat race, while legally keeping more of what they earn. She is a former IRS agent turned wealth strategist, and she shows entrepreneurs and high earning employees how to build lasting wealth without falling into common tax traps.

00;01;25;14 - 00;01;43;01
Craig Andrews
Now, I can say this if you're in business, I seriously doubt you are paying too few taxes. Probably paying too much. So tune in because I think this is this is going to be an interesting episode. Sherry, welcome.

00;01;43;03 - 00;01;46;01
Sherry Peel Jackson
Thank you, Craig, for having me on your show.

00;01;46;04 - 00;01;53;07
Craig Andrews
Absolutely. Absolutely. It's you know, one of the things he said in the green room,

00;01;53;10 - 00;01;56;01
Craig Andrews
you said nobody should be afraid of the IRS.

00;01;56;04 - 00;02;02;06
Craig Andrews
My response was, I am. They scare me.

00;02;02;08 - 00;02;28;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yeah. They are scary to a lot of people, because that facade has been up there with the picture of Uncle Sam, and it's like, I want your money. There's that saying that everybody repeats and everybody knows it. There's nothing to fear in life but death and taxes, and that's not true. Lots of corporations and individuals don't pay any taxes.

00;02;28;04 - 00;02;30;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
They just have the secrets.

00;02;30;11 - 00;02;33;27
Craig Andrews
Yeah. Yeah. And it's I mean, it's just into,

00;02;33;27 - 00;02;55;00
Craig Andrews
it's for me, it's intimidating. And when I'm making decisions in my business, my litmus test is I picture myself sitting across the table from an auditor. And if I feel confident, if I feel like I could honestly say to the auditor, here's what I did, here's why I did it.

00;02;55;03 - 00;03;01;07
Craig Andrews
I felt like I was doing the right thing. Then I'll do it. If I don't feel like I can do that,

00;03;01;10 - 00;03;05;15
Craig Andrews
then I won't do it. And the,

00;03;05;18 - 00;03;11;01
Craig Andrews
And that doesn't mean I'm always going to get understand the tax code correctly.

00;03;11;04 - 00;03;17;05
Craig Andrews
But part of that thought was I wouldn't be able to confidently say to the auditor, I haven't been ordered yet.

00;03;17;06 - 00;03;31;17
Craig Andrews
I'm assuming that day is coming, and I wouldn't be able to confidently say to them that that I want them to believe that I wasn't trying to do anything dubious, that I genuinely believed I could do that.

00;03;31;20 - 00;03;39;16
Craig Andrews
But I also know that that means I'm probably missing out on a lot of things, because maybe some ways I'm I'm a little too cautious.

00;03;39;18 - 00;03;56;17
Sherry Peel Jackson
Right. And most people are. See, I'm one that stands for justice. When I was young, when I was nine years old, actually, we had a neighbor that had a son, and I had a little brother about the same age, and my dad bought my brother a big wheel. And he loved that big wheel. And, you know, we played with the Big wheel.

00;03;56;18 - 00;04;15;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
I was a little bit too big for it, but he kind of turned it over once and it got a little scratch on it and a certain it was kind of a big scratch about the size of a quarter. So one day we came home and the big wheel wasn't on the carport. And the next day the little boy next door had a big wheel and say, wait a minute, this doesn't make sense.

00;04;15;04 - 00;04;30;08
Sherry Peel Jackson
So I went over there and I looked at the big wheel, and I saw that little scratch on there that said, I said, wait a minute, that's my brother's big wheel, because he had the scratch. And the boy said, no, no, no, my dad bought this big wheel and so when the man came home, now I'm nine years old.

00;04;30;08 - 00;04;34;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
When the man came home. I asked the man, you know, hey,

00;04;34;17 - 00;04;55;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
you didn't buy this. This is my brother's big wheel. And he said, I bought that big wheel. And then I said to the man, show me the receipt. So I've always been that person that stands for justice. So when you deal with IRS people, there are people in there that don't have a life and they want to be the Gestapo to you, but you have people in there that want to do right.

00;04;55;08 - 00;05;06;28
Sherry Peel Jackson
And I was one of those that wanted to make sure that the the small business owner, which is what the IRS calls the low hanging fruit, didn't get,

00;05;07;06 - 00;05;15;13
Sherry Peel Jackson
unjustly taxed. And that's what it's supposed to be. But that's not necessarily what it is. So it's easier.

00;05;15;14 - 00;05;20;11
Craig Andrews
Hang on, hang on. The IRS calls me low hanging fruit.

00;05;20;14 - 00;05;41;06
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes, sir. And unless you have a big corporation or some kind of family limited partnership, the mom and pop businesses, they're low hanging fruit. And when we graduate from the IRS training, the first thing they do is take us on the small businesses. Because nine times out of ten, that's where you're going to get the deductions, because these people, they don't have CPAs and,

00;05;41;11 - 00;05;42;14
Sherry Peel Jackson
attorneys that they can hire.

00;05;42;15 - 00;05;57;28
Sherry Peel Jackson
They just don't make that much money yet. So they do their own tax return. And inevitably you find that they made some mistakes, are honest mistakes, split their mistakes. So they end up on a lot of taxes. A lot of times that's horrible.

00;05;58;00 - 00;06;09;04
Craig Andrews
It was absolutely horrible. But the backbone of the American economy is the small business. And that's their target. That's they call us low hanging fruit.

00;06;09;07 - 00;06;36;24
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes. Exactly right. If you look at the IRS as background, especially in these days, they don't have the people the capacity to audit these larger companies. And I've seen articles that express such. So when they sent an IRS agent out to audit a corporation, that IRS agent has to have the background to be able to argue with the CPA, an attorney, if they don't, they don't want to send that person out.

00;06;36;24 - 00;06;54;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
Somebody fresh out of school or somebody that has a bachelor's degree without a CPA, they don't want to send that person out, because I do. I had a CPA when I was an IRS agent, and I remember having a fight with attorneys and, you know, slamming my fist down on the on the table and saying, no, you're wrong.

00;06;54;05 - 00;06;58;21
Sherry Peel Jackson
And they don't they don't want that because the IRS agents are probably

00;06;58;21 - 00;07;13;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
intimidated. The ones that I've seen the last time I dealt with the IRS, they looked like, you know, kids out of school with slick hair and, you know, tail boots on. And that's not what it started out to be. So it's different now. So the low hanging fruit is where the money comes from.

00;07;13;09 - 00;07;19;29
Sherry Peel Jackson
Unfortunately it's the middle class in in seems like every area of our economy it's the middle class is getting squeezed.

00;07;20;02 - 00;07;24;03
Craig Andrews
Yeah. You know, I have a I have a mentor,

00;07;24;06 - 00;07;27;12
Craig Andrews
who who got ordered by the IRS and,

00;07;27;17 - 00;07;28;00
Craig Andrews
he,

00;07;28;00 - 00;07;34;03
Craig Andrews
and he actually has a tax lawyer that works for him. And so he calls him, he's like, hey, you know,

00;07;34;03 - 00;07;43;13
Craig Andrews
I just got audited, and the IRS or IRS was saying that he owed the IRS, like $30,000, and,

00;07;43;16 - 00;07;56;02
Craig Andrews
and I, I say this, this tax lawyer, he's he's the guy that makes IRS agents cry because the the IRS showed up, and the only did he prove that my mentor didn't know $30,000.

00;07;56;02 - 00;07;57;29
Craig Andrews
He proved that the IRS and my,

00;07;58;06 - 00;08;07;16
Craig Andrews
mentor $40,000. So the IRS showed up thinking they were going to collect 30,000. They left owing 40,000. And,

00;08;07;16 - 00;08;10;19
Craig Andrews
I'm sure that didn't go over well when they went back to the office,

00;08;10;22 - 00;08;15;03
Craig Andrews
without the big trophy, as a matter of fact, having to write a check.

00;08;15;06 - 00;08;32;16
Sherry Peel Jackson
Exactly. I've had that situation. I had a client that called me and said, I just got back from the hospital. I was diagnosed with Ms. When I got to the mailbox, I had a letter that I'm being audited. Cheri, I can't do this. And you know, it ended up that no, she didn't know anything and she got a refund.

00;08;32;16 - 00;08;41;24
Sherry Peel Jackson
So it's all about making sure that you have the the knowledgeable people to help you. I would not recommend anybody do that alone.

00;08;41;27 - 00;08;44;28
Craig Andrews
Yeah. Now you had a run in with the IRS.

00;08;44;28 - 00;08;48;04
Craig Andrews
What was. Which is weird, because you're an IRS agent.

00;08;48;07 - 00;08;48;12
Craig Andrews
So

00;08;48;12 - 00;08;52;28
Craig Andrews
you've got me really curious. What was your run in with the IRS?

00;08;53;00 - 00;09;11;02
Sherry Peel Jackson
So when I was an IRS age and I thought I was doing the right thing, I got out of the IRS and started a CPA firm. When I quit, everybody started coming to me saying, hey, do you realize that the income tax is being misrepresented and misapplied to the American people? In other words, it's not us that's supposed to be paying right now.

00;09;11;02 - 00;09;20;19
Sherry Peel Jackson
President Trump has it right with the tariffs. That's what the Constitution says. Impose excise duties and tariffs is what's being and the listen to them. But somebody

00;09;20;21 - 00;09;32;24
Sherry Peel Jackson
finally challenged me with the $50,000 reward for anybody that could prove we had to pay income taxes and file an income tax return. And as I really studied then, I couldn't find a law.

00;09;32;24 - 00;09;54;13
Sherry Peel Jackson
So in school and IRS training, we used little booklets that they put together and they gave us what they wanted to give us. And of course, I made all A's because I memorized and understood what was in the books. But the tax code is different. The tax code is written for businesses, and the individuals are not the ones liable for the income tax.

00;09;54;13 - 00;10;02;23
Sherry Peel Jackson
We're supposed to be getting tax from other countries for the privilege of doing business here. So I started speaking out about that. And the IRS didn't like that.

00;10;02;26 - 00;10;16;26
Sherry Peel Jackson
Back in 2000, I got together with a group called We the People Foundation for Constitutional Education, and they put a full page ad out in the USA today saying, dear we the people income tax is a fraud.

00;10;16;29 - 00;10;19;07
Sherry Peel Jackson
And that turned into a whole,

00;10;19;10 - 00;10;43;10
Sherry Peel Jackson
movement called the tax honesty movement. Aaron Rousseau is a Hollywood producer that made trading Places with Eddie Murphy and the rolls with Bette Midler. He produced a documentary called America Freedom to Fascism. I was in there a couple of other former IRS agents, IRS Criminal Investigation Division agent, an FBI agent, Ed Griffin, which is a historian.

00;10;43;10 - 00;10;43;28
Sherry Peel Jackson
A lot of,

00;10;43;28 - 00;11;00;26
Sherry Peel Jackson
attorneys were in the movie saying, hey, go do your research because we're being robbed. I didn't like that. And so they started prosecuting us, literally trying to put everybody in jail. Some of us didn't go to jail, but some of us did. And so I was one of the ones that they raided my house and

00;11;00;26 - 00;11;08;08
Sherry Peel Jackson
were there for from seven, from 745 to 5:00 in the afternoon at gunpoint.

00;11;08;11 - 00;11;31;20
Sherry Peel Jackson
Craig. They had us, like my whole family, at gunpoint. Now we are homeschooling family. Just trying to keep what we earn. Had us at gunpoint, left with 32 boxes and three years later they couldn't come up with anything. So they charged me with misdemeanor willful failure to file. I didn't file tax returns because I was keeping what I earn, and they gave me a four year sentence on that misdemeanor charge.

00;11;31;20 - 00;11;34;18
Sherry Peel Jackson
There are people that have,

00;11;34;21 - 00;11;39;23
Sherry Peel Jackson
done unspeakable things to children that don't get that that many years. And I literally got.

00;11;39;25 - 00;11;50;07
Craig Andrews
Let me let me name one, let me name one. Larry Nassar at the gymnast. Yes. Gymnast. Who was who was molesting young girls.

00;11;50;07 - 00;11;50;26
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes.

00;11;50;29 - 00;11;56;28
Craig Andrews
The FBI knew about that for ten years and they did nothing. The FBI knew about Jeffrey Epstein.

00;11;57;04 - 00;11;57;14
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes.

00;11;57;14 - 00;12;00;18
Craig Andrews
For decades. Did nothing.

00;12;00;20 - 00;12;26;07
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes. And they gave a homeschooling mother four year sentence on a misdemeanor because I refused to give him my money over the whole the whole trial was a three ring circus in the first place. But I ended up doing a three year stint in federal prison. I got six months good time in six months halfway house. That's the only reason I wasn't in there for four silent years, because I have a powerful voice.

00;12;26;07 - 00;12;37;07
Sherry Peel Jackson
I had nine liters behind the name of the CPA. I was a certified fraud examiner. You know, all of these things. And I was telling the truth, and I wasn't telling people what to do. Those of us who were,

00;12;37;14 - 00;12;42;20
Sherry Peel Jackson
former IRS agents made a pact not to tell people to file or not to file, not to tell people to pay or not to pay.

00;12;42;20 - 00;13;15;19
Sherry Peel Jackson
We just said, do your own due diligence. And what I would say is do your due diligence and make sure that, you know, you decide whether you want to be a slave or get off the plantation. They did not like that at all. And one of the other things that I will bring up is I have a a picture in my office of some slaves in the cotton field picking cotton, and the caption says, if stealing 100% of the products of someone's labor is slavery, at what percentage is it not slavery?

00;13;15;21 - 00;13;31;03
Sherry Peel Jackson
So this thing ends up not being a racial issue. It doesn't matter whether you're black, white, you're Christian, Jew, Muslim, even any of that. We as Americans are being robbed. The money that we're giving over to the IRS is going to do things that we don't want done.

00;13;31;06 - 00;13;33;15
Craig Andrews
Yeah, yeah. And, you know, there's

00;13;33;15 - 00;13;37;13
Craig Andrews
a saying I heard, well, let me back up.

00;13;37;16 - 00;13;55;15
Craig Andrews
I, I think the FBI should be abolished. You know, people are like, well, we need to get back to when they were an honorable institution. I'm like, when was the FBI honorable? Please tell me at the time, FBI was, you know, so you live in Atlanta and what was it, 1996?

00;13;55;17 - 00;14;04;15
Craig Andrews
Richard Jewell, an American hero. They ruined his life. He was, you know, he was the one that found the bomb at the,

00;14;04;15 - 00;14;17;26
Craig Andrews
the in the Olympic Village. He got people out of the way of the bomb. He saved lives. And the FBI ruined his life trying to accuse him of being the bomber. Yes, that's who they are.

00;14;17;28 - 00;14;30;28
Craig Andrews
They. They wiretap Martin Luther King. They watched him. They listen to him do some horrible things against women. Didn't intervene, then protect women.

00;14;31;01 - 00;14;32;11
Craig Andrews
And then they tried to convict,

00;14;32;11 - 00;14;36;18
Craig Andrews
convince them to commit suicide. Did you know that?

00;14;36;21 - 00;14;38;20
Sherry Peel Jackson
I did not know about the suicide part.

00;14;38;22 - 00;14;41;10
Craig Andrews
Yeah, they sent in. They sent in some. I,

00;14;41;13 - 00;14;55;00
Craig Andrews
had them send a letter to Martin Luther King saying, hey, look, your legacy is in jeopardy and your movement is in jeopardy. The best thing you can do to preserve your movement and your legacy is to commit suicide. The

00;14;55;00 - 00;15;01;06
Craig Andrews
FBI tried to get Martin Luther King to commit suicide and.

00;15;01;08 - 00;15;06;00
Sherry Peel Jackson
I think the IRS, the FBI and all those are like bouncers for the club. You in

00;15;06;00 - 00;15;19;29
Sherry Peel Jackson
my name for the IRS. Honestly, is the insidious representatives of Satan because that they take money away from these families that could be doing better. They could be sending their children to college to be doctors, or they could take a nice vacation.

00;15;19;29 - 00;15;32;14
Sherry Peel Jackson
But, you know, now they say, I think we're working until May in order to get the money. So all the money from January to May goes to the IRS. So the system is set up for us to fail and, and

00;15;32;14 - 00;15;35;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
one that's going to block the system and continue to buck the system.

00;15;35;05 - 00;15;57;20
Craig Andrews
So that's still awesome. Well, and here's, you know, where I was about same thing I was. And there's a saying that when people fear the government, you have tyranny. When the government fears the people, you have liberty. And when you look at what we're talking about, you know, where the FBI raided your house, had you on your gunpoint, the they do that to people.

00;15;57;28 - 00;16;12;23
Craig Andrews
They do that to innocent people knowingly doing that to innocent people. And it's and it's the power they have, and they have unlimited prosecutorial resources to ruin your life. Kind of like they did. Richard Jewel.

00;16;12;26 - 00;16;13;03
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yeah.

00;16;13;05 - 00;16;29;08
Craig Andrews
And we're talking and Richard Jewel seemed like a simple man who was acting, acting honorably. He won some sophisticated person that was equipped to go up against the FBI. But he's an American hero. He saved lives, and they ruined his life.

00;16;29;10 - 00;16;45;13
Sherry Peel Jackson
Yes, and they ruined a lot of lives. The IRS came into my home. And there there are rules. And a lot of times they'll break the rules. But a lot of times they'll skate around them. For example, people that have done the research understand what I'm about to say when they had me at gunpoint and,

00;16;45;13 - 00;16;51;24
Sherry Peel Jackson
finally opened the door because I decided that I didn't want to see my children, I didn't want my children to see me,

00;16;51;27 - 00;16;54;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
laying in a pool of blood because everybody else was asleep.

00;16;54;13 - 00;17;13;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
I was downstairs in my office doing some work. So I opened the door, and the first two people that entered my home were local police officers, and they let the IRS in. So there's a difference. They didn't have jurisdiction there, and they knew that. But the local police officers let them in, and there were 15 to 20 of them that just came in.

00;17;13;11 - 00;17;27;12
Sherry Peel Jackson
They had one in the backyard that had a metal detector that was going around in circles in the backyard. I don't know what they had been told about me, but most of them seem surprised that whatever they were told, they didn't see that. So they had surprising looks on their faces.

00;17;27;15 - 00;17;42;29
Craig Andrews
Yeah, well. Well, yeah. And it's you know, it's up to us. We need to vote. Voter turnout is just absolutely horrendous. You know, we,

00;17;42;29 - 00;17;56;01
Craig Andrews
we complain, but complain about our government. But when it comes time to step up and vote and change things, and I'll admit, the choices are frequently poor choices. But but,

00;17;56;04 - 00;18;03;26
Craig Andrews
we we have major elections being won by a 20% voter turnout.

00;18;03;28 - 00;18;27;16
Craig Andrews
And I think the first place to start is you have to start local. And those are the races that are ignored the most. You know, let's start as we did as a nation, start small when the local races and then when the state races and then when the national races demanding change and put away do away with the stupid partizanship they, they

00;18;27;19 - 00;18;29;00
Craig Andrews
they capitalize on that.

00;18;29;00 - 00;18;38;12
Craig Andrews
They count on that, on us being divided against each other even when we, you know, because we have different beliefs on, you know, on certain issues.

00;18;38;15 - 00;18;41;05
Craig Andrews
But the reality is,

00;18;41;07 - 00;18;56;28
Craig Andrews
we, we get the government, we, we deserve because we're not playing our role. And, and that, that we have as citizens to say the type of government that we want.

00;18;57;00 - 00;18;59;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
I think there's another spin on that. Also,

00;18;59;04 - 00;19;10;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
I do believe that you should start out with the local races, but based on the research that I've done, our government, especially at the,

00;19;10;11 - 00;19;27;18
Sherry Peel Jackson
the national level, has been bought out by the corporations and the lobbyists. So people have lost all hope in the government because they feel like their votes don't count, because all of the rules and regulations that are being put in place are benefiting the corporations, what I call the corp autocracy.

00;19;27;21 - 00;19;39;01
Sherry Peel Jackson
So that's why people have kind of shied away from it. But yeah, I believe that the local elections are a good start to try to get at least your community back.

00;19;39;03 - 00;19;42;14
Craig Andrews
Well, and it's you know, if we look at Covid, it's kind of to,

00;19;42;17 - 00;19;43;22
Craig Andrews
support your point.

00;19;43;25 - 00;20;02;05
Craig Andrews
It was Amazon and Walmart that were the big winners of Covid, the small businesses that you're talking about. They were the losers. It was one of the biggest wealth transfers in American history, from the middle class to the billionaires. And I don't have anything against billionaires.

00;20;02;08 - 00;20;04;18
Craig Andrews
You know, I'm I wouldn't mind being one.

00;20;04;21 - 00;20;14;25
Craig Andrews
But the but it's, No. And I mean, and we won't dive down this rabbit hole, but,

00;20;14;28 - 00;20;17;02
Craig Andrews
you know, I was admitted to the hospital with,

00;20;17;02 - 00;20;26;25
Craig Andrews
with Covid, and the U.S government paid a bonus to my doctors to give me a drug that they knew did not treat Covid.

00;20;26;25 - 00;20;30;08
Craig Andrews
The world Health Organization and put out a policy saying, don't prescribe this.

00;20;30;14 - 00;20;34;15
Craig Andrews
The drug's name is remdesivir. Don't prescribe remdesivir for Covid. It don't work.

00;20;34;18 - 00;20;53;18
Craig Andrews
From 2015, when they gave it to Ebola patients, it killed 53% of the people they gave it to. I put them in liver failure and or kidney failure. And but for some reason, when I was in the hospital, they gave me remdesivir and it sure enough, it put me in kidney failure.

00;20;53;21 - 00;21;04;19
Craig Andrews
And the only answer, the only people that benefited from that drug were the drug manufacturers who got paid. This made a lot more money because they were able to sell a deadly drug. And,

00;21;04;19 - 00;21;12;10
Craig Andrews
and the the doctors in the hospital systems that were prescribing it wasn't helping the middle class then definitely didn't help me. It nearly killed me.

00;21;12;12 - 00;21;37;03
Sherry Peel Jackson
Right. And people that had, you know, at least two co-morbidities just were dropping like flies. People in my community, the black community with a lot of high blood pressure and stuff, they were dropping like flies. And Fauci should be in jail somewhere under the jail. He should be in a dungeon somewhere. I understand what happened. 2020 was a thief, even to me financially, and I didn't lose necessarily any close friends.

00;21;37;03 - 00;21;50;21
Sherry Peel Jackson
But there are church members that just dropped because of, you know, this remdesivir and all the things they wouldn't let happen, like, the, the, the drug Joe Rogan took. I,

00;21;50;24 - 00;21;52;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
can't think of the name of it right now.

00;21;52;09 - 00;21;53;08
Craig Andrews
But ivermectin.

00;21;53;08 - 00;22;15;08
Sherry Peel Jackson
Ivermectin. You know, I actually traveled far and wide to find ivermectin. I have a home in Costa Rica. I went to the pharmacy in Costa Rica as soon as they let us get out of the country and say, can you give me some of that? And he said, how much? And that's all he had to say. But, you know, I, I believe in natural medicine.

00;22;15;08 - 00;22;18;16
Sherry Peel Jackson
I believe the system, especially the pharmaceuticals.

00;22;18;19 - 00;22;33;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
One of the reasons that we as Americans are being dragged down, I think that for whatever reason, they don't want us to be, you know, the country that we're supposed to be. Klaus, swab and all, Harold and all that with,

00;22;33;07 - 00;22;38;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
nothing. And be happy. And we're useless eaters. I agree, and I research that and,

00;22;38;05 - 00;22;41;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
try to let people know you got to stand up.

00;22;41;05 - 00;22;47;19
Sherry Peel Jackson
Like I said, I am that one that stands for justice. And this is a lot of injustice going on on every different level.

00;22;47;22 - 00;22;55;28
Craig Andrews
So let's let's put it back to taxes because we could, you know, Jerry, you and I could chat about that for hours.

00;22;56;01 - 00;23;02;23
Craig Andrews
But, and I would enjoy that. I would really enjoy that. But let's get back to taxes.

00;23;02;26 - 00;23;08;12
Craig Andrews
So what should business owners be doing? And the,

00;23;08;12 - 00;23;09;23
Craig Andrews
and let me just kind of throw this out.

00;23;09;23 - 00;23;27;11
Craig Andrews
I, there's a lot of people that basically are not at the point of, no, I'm not ready to roll the dice and risk all to stop paying taxes. I'm going to pay taxes. Speaking to those people, what should they start doing that they're not presently doing?

00;23;27;13 - 00;23;48;19
Sherry Peel Jackson
So those are the people that I deal with. 99% of the people are not going to try to cut the head off the beast like I did, and I don't recommend that for anybody. So the ones that want to stay within the system need to learn how to starve the beast. How do you start the beast? Well, if you're an individual that has a W-2, the first thing that you need to do is you need to go get a home based business.

00;23;48;21 - 00;24;12;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
Because with a home based business, you're going to have deductions that you'll never have as an employee. As an employee, you can't write off your cell phone and your internet and your mileage, but with your business, you can. So whether you're a sole proprietor, you start a partnership or a corporation, it's going to help you. The thing that I tell people, and this is one of the most salacious stories about taxes, there is a case.

00;24;12;07 - 00;24;34;08
Sherry Peel Jackson
It's a 1994 case, and a woman named Cindy has decided that she was going to write off her breast enlargement, and she did it on her tax return. And the IRS took that deduction away. Cindy decided to go to Tax Court, and the Tax Court sided with Cindy. Why did they side with her and let her take her breast enlargement?

00;24;34;11 - 00;24;46;17
Sherry Peel Jackson
Because Cindy has better known as Chesty love was a pole dancer, and it was an ordinary, unnecessary business expense for her to get more income. So Internal Revenue Service,

00;24;46;20 - 00;25;03;00
Sherry Peel Jackson
Internal Revenue Code section 162 says that all ordinary and necessary business expenses are tax deductible. What is ordinary and necessary common, helpful, appropriate. And,

00;25;03;03 - 00;25;09;19
Sherry Peel Jackson
when you do that and you have your records, they can't do anything about it.

00;25;09;19 - 00;25;27;05
Sherry Peel Jackson
So if you're writing off whatever, don't be afraid to write at all. When I say that they call the the small business owners a low hanging fruit, yes, they do, but one of the problems that they usually have is small business owners is they're trying to do their business. They are not accountants, so they don't keep up with their records.

00;25;27;05 - 00;25;55;01
Sherry Peel Jackson
And if you can't afford to get a bookkeeper or an accountant, you have to keep meticulous records, keeping your records made for everything that you spin. That's a business expense by a small two drawer, or maybe for your file cabinet and keep your expenses. Keep your receipts. Now, I know that a lot of people are technical now, and there apps out there for that, but put folders on your computer for all of your expenses.

00;25;55;03 - 00;26;13;21
Sherry Peel Jackson
Put your advertising expenses in a folder, your insurance, your supplies, all that in a folder, whether it be on a computer or in a real folder, so that when you get audited, if you get audited, then you have all your receipts and then you won't have any changes. It's called a no change audit. You'll have a no change audit.

00;26;13;26 - 00;26;14;07
Sherry Peel Jackson
So

00;26;14;07 - 00;26;34;16
Sherry Peel Jackson
and I, emphasize, first of all, getting the home based business. And I say home based because you don't want to have to pay your rent and rent to an office park or your mortgage and rent to office park. Lots of people during Covid had to sit down and and just redo their homes and have businesses in their homes.

00;26;34;19 - 00;27;01;29
Craig Andrews
Well, and something I learned somewhat recently is if you have if you're an s-corp and you have, you've declared that you have a a home office, even if you have a brick and mortar office that you go to, you can deduct the travel and travel expenses to go from your home office to your brick and mortar. Or for me, I have a co-working place that I go, and so,

00;27;02;02 - 00;27;09;04
Craig Andrews
the travel between my home office and my co-working place, that's a business expense, right?

00;27;09;04 - 00;27;18;17
Sherry Peel Jackson
The way I look at it and the way I teach my clients is everything is tax deductible until it's not every time I breathe the tax deductible. If I need to go to the grocery store or if I need to go to some store this

00;27;18;17 - 00;27;20;04
Sherry Peel Jackson
special a long way from my

00;27;20;04 - 00;27;27;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
home, I'll pick up something that's business related some pens, pencils, paper and that mileage is now deductible.

00;27;27;11 - 00;27;47;13
Sherry Peel Jackson
When I go to take my granddaughter to Orlando to go to Universal Studios, I make sure that I see clients there and I make sure that I do maybe a small seminar there, and then it's tax deductible. Of course, there are limits. I can't go get a big suite. I could deduct the the hotel room because I was already going to be in there alone.

00;27;47;16 - 00;27;55;02
Sherry Peel Jackson
I can't do that. The universal tickets. But for the most part we need to think strategically about tax deductions.

00;27;55;05 - 00;28;01;06
Craig Andrews
Yeah, yeah yeah I have I have some family members that just moved and

00;28;01;06 - 00;28;04;11
Craig Andrews
I'm currently searching for a new business reason.

00;28;04;14 - 00;28;08;15
Craig Andrews
You know, the business contact in the town that they moved to because,

00;28;08;18 - 00;28;15;12
Craig Andrews
you know, when my wife and I get in the car and we, we drive there, it's a business expense, and it's substantial.

00;28;15;14 - 00;28;17;24
Sherry Peel Jackson
Exactly, exactly.

00;28;17;26 - 00;28;20;17
Craig Andrews
Well, neat. Well, Sherry,

00;28;20;20 - 00;28;23;18
Craig Andrews
I really appreciate your heart. And the,

00;28;23;20 - 00;28;45;02
Craig Andrews
you know, one of the things that you said while we were still in the green room was that, you know, it's really about gaining freedom. And as much as we, you know, critique our politicians and our government, we still have laws that protect us. And I think we just need to stand up and and declare those.

00;28;45;07 - 00;28;47;01
Craig Andrews
But they need people.

00;28;47;04 - 00;28;51;18
Craig Andrews
Especially businesses need people to navigate these waters.

00;28;51;21 - 00;28;55;00
Craig Andrews
How can folks contact you?

00;28;55;03 - 00;29;26;23
Sherry Peel Jackson
Well, I have a website, Sherry Piel jackson.com, and my email address is connect it. Sherry Peele jackson.com I have a YouTube channel and I post on YouTube. I talk about tax deductions. I talk about politics and different things and have classes. Sometimes I have a class coming up in January called The Elimination of Taxation, where I'll be teaching people these deductions that you don't hear about from the CPA, you don't hear about from the government.

00;29;26;25 - 00;29;30;09
Sherry Peel Jackson
